Just 10 minutes from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages, the Borda Lodge farm campsite awaits you for a holiday in the great outdoors. Stay in one of 6 tent-lodges on stilts set in a green backdrop at the foot of the Basque mountains.

Twice a week, from June to September, Jean-Michel invites you to discover his life as sheep-herder and to accompany him on a hike to his flock in the summer pastures of the Iraty mountains. On these vast open hillsides, participate in counting his 400 sheep and learn more about how he cares for his livestock. After your efforts, enjoy a delicious, well-deserved snack of local farm produce, such as Irouleguy wine, taloak, AOC Ossau-Iraty cheese and Basque cake.
Take advantage of your stay in Jaxu to immerse yourself in Basque culture and traditions. In Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the last French stop along the Way of Saint James, stroll through paved laneways with their remarkable Medieval architecture and support Basque crafts by buying local in one of the many shops offering woven goods, Basque linen, espadrilles and gourmet specialities.
With the kids? Head to Irissarry, where young and old can take part in a Terra Aventura treasure hunt, ‘The Lamina in search of the Baïgarre’, in front of the huge Ospitalea building, a former commandery of the Knights of the Order of Malta.
