Biarritz PAYS BASQUE
6 DAYS OF NATURE & AVENTURE
Between the ocean and the mountains, enjoy 6 days of natural wonders in the Basque Country.
DAY 1: Walking and hiking
in Haute-Soule
Forests, canyons, mountains, between the villages of Larrau and Sainte-Engrâce, nature and walking enthusiasts can try their head for heights on the Holzarte footbridge, get a taste of a tropical atmosphere at the bottom of the Kakuetta Canyon or plunge into the darkness of La Verna. THE place to be for nature lovers!
DAY 2: Iraty by E-bike, between tradition and modernity
The Basque mountains at their purest and most authentic. A place where borders are no issue and which reminds us that men and women speak the same language in the North and the South. Set out to explore the tracks opened by shepherds through the mountains and the Forest of Iraty by E-bike.
DAY 3: Rafting on the Nive River
The Nive is a torrent which rushes down the Basque mountains and offers rafters an opportunity to enjoy this passionately Basque valley. Visitors will discover the fragile and surprising ecosystem in the company of their guide and the rapids which generate a host of emotions and splashes. This an entertaining, family-friendly activity.
DAY 4: Fly among the vultures
Mount Baïgura stands tall like a sentinel facing the Pyrenees and its location makes it an ideal place for paragliding. Your pilot will be waiting for you at the bottom and a little train, towed by a tractor, will take you to the top. Then you will take off and get the exceptional feeling that you are gliding through the air. The vultures might just take an ascending head wind in your company!
DAY 5: Sunset on the Bay
of St-Jean-de-Luz
At the end of the afternoon, when holidaymakers leave the beach after a day in the sun and waves, it’s time for deciding whether to leave and do some stand up paddle near Artha, a seawall built in the middle of the bay, or to get into a Hawaiian dugout canoe and try to catch some “Chipiron” (baby squid). This formidable cephalopod, which is some 15 centimetres in length, can draw a whole family of tourists down into an abyss. Here, we prefer our “Chipiron” cooked on the “plancha”.
DAY 6: If the swell is good and the winds are from the sea…
The perfect conditions for a surfing session. The most experienced surfers will head for renowned surfing spots like Cenitz in Guéthary, the Central Beach in Bidart or the beaches of Anglet. For the others, some advice… head for one of the Basque Coast surfing schools, you will get a friendly welcome and an instructor will teach you the basics in no time. After a few lessons, you will be standing on your board: pure pleasure….
